Lokayukta Report on mining scam in Karnataka

The chief minister of Karnataka Mr.B.H Yeddiyurappa's political fate will be determined in a few days, as the report is to be officially known in a week. While there is a lot of hype over the leaking of the report, it is a wellknown fact mining in a few districts of karnataka particularly Bellary, illegal mining is going on despite many judicial pronouncements against a few mining companies. According to the leaked report, politicians belonging to BJP, JD(S) and congress are invovled apart from officials and police personnel. While the government may accept or reject the recommedations of the Lokayukta report, the intervention of supreme court on this issue has raised a ray of hope that the culprits will not go unpunished, despite their persistent efforts to stonewall the scam that is hitting national headlines. It should be remembered that Justice Santosh Hegde is known to be man of integrity and an important member of civil society whose contributions to Jan Lokpal bill can not be ignored. it is to be seen whether the powerful people who subverted the laws of the land with impunity will be prosecuted and punished, as the documentary evidence against the culprits can not be disputed.   vajradamshtran
